These days, I feel like everything is electronic.
Nobody uses analog notes, communication, or planning anymore. Everything is kept in the palm of your hand on a fancy smartphone and synced up to a PC somewhere. There’s no shortage of intelligent appliances in every aspect of your life. Your refrigerator can now send you reminders about grocery list. Your washing and drying machine can ping you when the loads are done. Even your car is now a full-fledged smart device. That’s why it’s no wonder that I get confused sometimes when random alarms are going off. I have no idea where to start looking when a dinging or ringing starts. Recently, I was going pretty batty because of an ongoing mystery with an alarm at my house. I assumed it was coming from my phone at first… But had no luck identifying the app that was making such an annoying sound. I spent days feeling like I was going out of my mind, hearing this dinging sound every so often. It took me over two weeks to figure out that it was my smart thermostat. Apparently, the thermostat had been set up to send me notifications for all sorts of heating and cooling system issues. If my energy expenditure was higher one day than expected, the thermostat was trying to get my attention. When I needed to change out the air filter, the thermostat wanted me to be prepared a week ahead of time. When am I HVAC system went offline during a power failure, the thermostat used to reserve battery to send out an SOS. All this time, my thermostats been trying its hardest to communicate with me and I’ve been too concerned with other smart applications.
