The holidays are a time for friends and memories. I love being at my home during the holidays, with the snow falling and being wrapped in a blanked on the couch. I love the fireplace with its light illuminating off of the walls and ceiling, making my whole living room glow. There are days where I come in freezing from outside. I will immediately take off my snowy clothes, dress in my sweatpants and sweatshirt and immediately sit in front of the fireplace. I’ll grab a book or magazine and turn my TV on. During the holidays I will utilize my fireplace more than my furnace. Once the holidays are over I’ll switch over and use my furnace more. I do this because I don’t like going out to the shed and lugging out firewood in the freezing cold. I also like how my furnace burns more cleanly than my fireplace. Sometimes I can see soot on my furniture surfaces. And I don’t like having to polish my wood furniture every time I turn my fireplace off. To keep using my furnace throughout the cold winter I like to call my HVAC provider before the winter starts to have him service it. I make sure that my HVAC system is running efficiently so I’m not stuck in the middle of winter without a source of heat. My HVAC technician makes sure that my air filter is clean and changed, that my ductwork isn’t dirty and it’s sealed properly. I would hate to come inside from the chilly outdoors and not have heat. Then I would have to resort to my fireplace that leaves soot everywhere.
