Renovating to make my home more accessible.

The greatest issue that my buddy and I faced was moving the ductwork that ran through the walls and relocating multiple of the air vents for the Heating and A/C system.

Following a tragic car accident my father was confined to a wheelchair. He spent nearly six months in the hospital and then a 3-month stay at a rehabilitation center before he was ready to come home. All the while during his recovery my buddy and I sat down and realized that my buddy and I needed to make some major changes at our home, and even though my brothers and I are all grown, three of us still live at dwelling with our parents and at least my buddy and I were able to do much of the work ourselves. My associate and I knew that my buddy and I would need to add a handicapped entrance to the home and widen several of the door frames so that Dad could get around easily. This meant that my buddy and I would be opening up multiple of the wall sections and trying to make the home have a more open floor plan. The greatest issue that my buddy and I faced was moving the ductwork that ran through the walls and relocating multiple of the air vents for the Heating and A/C system. Our Heating and A/C dealer came in and easily recommended that my buddy and I look into radiant flooring instead of forced air to heat the home because this would eliminate the ductwork and air vents all together. This seems like a viable solution so my buddy and I made arrangements to have that installed and then converted to using mini split units for air conditioner that could hang on the walls! Both of these were appealing ideas and really freed up the space that my buddy and I needed to ensure there would be no obstructions in Dad’s way once he was settled back home. Making the home more accessible was what was substantial and my buddy and I are easily pleased with these changes.
